Terps Earn 1-1 Draw Against UPenn


Box Score PENNSYLVANIA, PA — For the third consecutive game, the Terps battled back from a 1-0 deficit to force a draw, tieing UPenn 1-1. 

The Terps had just one shot in the first period and the Quakers grabbed the lead in the 33rd minute. In the 60th minute, Maryland broke through thanks to a beautiful goal by Juliana Lynch, her first in a Maryland uniform. Neither team was able to find the back of the next again. 

After a slow offensive start, Maryland ended up outshooting the Quakers 8-5. 

The Terps are now 0-0-3 on the season. 

Breaking Down The Action

  • Neither side was able to take control through the first 25 minutes of action with each team registering just one shot apiece. 
  • Pennsylvania’s Sizzy Lawton struck first off a free kick just outside the box in the 33rd minute, punching the ball through the top left of the net. 
  • Goalkeeper Madeline Smith made multiple tough saves early in the second period to keep the Terps in the game. 
  • In the 60th minute, Lynch found the back of the net off a nice find from Alina Stahl in front of the goal.
  • Alyssa Poarch and Catherine DeRosa both put beautiful balls towards the bottom of the net during the final 10 minutes, but Laurence Gladua made the game-saving save both times. 

Stellar Stahl

  • Stahl, a West Virginia transfer, has had a hand in all three Maryland goals of the season, scoring one of them and assisting on the other two. 

Series History

  • With the tie, the Terps moved to an all-time record of 1-0-2 against the Quakers. 

Up Next

  • The Terps have their home opener on Thursday at 7 pm. They will face Georgetown at Ludwig Field.
