No. 20 Terps Tie Liberty, 1-1


COLLEGE PARK, MD — After falling behind early, William Kulvik scored the equalizing goal and the No. 20 Terps tied Liberty 1-1. 

Maryland dominated time of possession and shots, but was unable to find a second goal to earn a win as the Flames survived a late flurry of Maryland shots on goal.

Breaking Down The Action

  • Joshua Bolma went down 28 seconds into the game after being knocked in the back of the head by Liberty’s Skyler Stricker, who was given a yellow card. Bolma returned in the 27th minute. 
  • The Terps had multiple scoring chances in the 13th minute as Kulvik had a header bounce off the crossbar before Liberty’s Blake Franzen batted away a Hunter George shot on goal.
  • Bryce Swinehart gave the Flames the early lead in the 15th minute with a shot to the top right of the goal off a free kick. 
  • The Terps found the equalizer in the 31st minute as a tough shot by Stefan Copetti forced Franzen to make a diving save. The ball bounced right to Kulvik who promptly knocked it in for the first goal of his career. 
  • The Terps outshot the Flames 9-1 in the first period. 
  • Maryland continued to dominate time of possession and shots in the beginning of the second period, but was unable to put one in goal. 
  • Jamie Lowell made a key save in the 69th minute to keep the game tied. 
  • Bolma had a prime opportunity to score the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute, but the ball sailed just over the top of the net. Two minutes later, Copetti had a header that went just right of the goal. 
  • In the 85th minute, German Giammattei broke away from the defense and dropped a beautiful pass to Copetti, but Franzen made the save again.
