TACOMA, WASH. – After securing a playoff berth last weekend, Tacoma Defiance (13-4-4, 46 points) heads to Herriman, Utah tonight to take on Real Monarchs (3-14-3, 12 points) at Zions Bank Stadium (6:00 p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
After defeating Sporting Kansas City II 1-0 last Saturday, Defiance is looking to keep its winning ways going and stay atop of all of MLS NEXT Pro. Tacoma currently has 46 points, one point above St. Louis City SC 2 and two points above Columbus Crew 2 for the top spot in the league, with three games remaining in the regular season. Real Monarchs sits in 10th place in the Western Conference with 12 points.
With Defiance’s win last weekend, coupled with Earthquakes II’s loss to St. Louis City SC 2, Tacoma clinched the Pacific Division and claimed a spot in the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs. Tacoma is the first team to win its division this year.
Following tonight’s match, Tacoma has a week off before traveling up to Swangard Stadium to take on Whitecaps FC 2 on Friday, September 9 (7:00 p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
