Lumi’s Big Night Leads to Victory

UC Santa Barbara

SAN FRANCISCO – Freshman Lumi Kostmayer managed a brace and an assist to guide No. 13 Stanford (2-0-0) to a 3-0 victory over San Francisco (1-1-1) on Thursday night from San Francisco’s Negoesco Stadium.

Playing in just her second collegiate match, Kostmayer assisted on the first Stanford goal of the night, receiving a pass from Sierra Enge in the 24th minute before heel-flicking a pass on to junior Samantha Williams in the box. Williams slid and one-timed a shot past San Francisco’s Megan Nail to open the scoring.

Teamed with a brace in the season-opener against Sacramento State on August 18, Williams’ goal stretched her season total to three.

Kostmayer added to her stellar night in the 50th minute, settling a ball off a throw in before eyeing Nail off her line and firing a shot from distance to put the Cardinal up 2-0. Wrapping up the five-point night, the native of Southbury, Conn. dribbled toward the top of the box in the 69th minute and unleashed a low shot to the near post that beat the dive of Nail.

Both Williams and Kostmayer now have seven points on the season to lead the Cardinal.

Stanford managed 15 shots in the victory, putting eight on frame, including four from Kostmayer. The Dons tallied seven total shots, forcing Stanford goalkeeper Ryan Campbell into three saves.

The solo clean sheet was Campbell’s first of her career after combining on five previous shutouts.
