Courage Re-Sign Denise O’Sullivan – OurSports Central

CARY, NC – The North Carolina Courage today announced the club has re-signed midfielder Denise O’Sullivan to an extension through 2024.

“We couldn’t be more excited with the news of Denise’s contract extension here with the club,” Head Coach Sean Nahas said. “Knowing we have her with the club for the next three years provides us the stability we need and allows us to continue to build around her and her importance both on the field and in our locker room. She has become one of the best midfielders in the world and to have that continue to be here in a Courage jersey is something everyone should be excited about.”


The Cork, Ireland native has recorded 122 career NWSL appearances, 93 of those being with the Courage. This season, O’Sullivan has collected 11 appearances and clocked 892 minutes of playing time, scoring one goal, adding an assist and six key passes while maintaining an 83.2% passing success rate.

Joining the Courage via a waiver wire pickup in 2017, O’Sullivan has won back-to-back NWSL Championship titles with the North Carolina side in 2018 and 2019, three NWSL Shields, and most recently, the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup. The 28-year-old also brings a wealth of international experience to the Courage roster, collecting 65 caps and scoring 20 goals with the Ireland Women’s National Team. Most recently, the midfielder scored a goal to lead Ireland to a 1-0 victory over Wales in the 2022 Pinatar Cup.

“The Courage is my home,” O’Sullivan said. “From the fans to the team, it’s such a great place to play football. I can’t wait to see what the coming years have to bring.”

The Courage return to action this Sunday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. ET against the Kansas City Current. The match will be streamed live on Twitch Global.
