Cardinals Down No. 10 Saint Louis in 2022 Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men’s soccer team opened the 2022 season with a 3-1 victory over No. 10 Saint Louis on Thursday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
 
Louisville (1-0-0) surrendered the opening goal early in the first half but responded with three unanswered strikes to secure the victory.
 
Thursday’s match was the first of seven for the Cardinals this season against teams inside the top 15 of the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.
 
Saint Louis (0-1-0) found the back of the net first on Thursday, collecting a loose ball at the top of the box and putting it home nearly 17 minutes into the match. The shot was the only one the Billikens would get in the first half, and one of just five they had on the night.
 
Louisville answered 12 minutes later. Sander Roed played a pass down the right flank to Konstantinos Georgallides, and the freshman chipped a perfect pass to Macoumba Ba for the one-time finish off the inside of the left post.
 
The match remained level at one for the remainder of the half and neither side was able to break the tie through the first 20 minutes of the second half.
 
The Cards finally broke through in the 66th minute with Damien Barker John playing Aboubacar Camara through and Louisville’s top scorer each of the last two seasons calmly placed the ball past the keeper for the eventual game-winner.
