McConnell, McKinney Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

MADISON, Wis. – Following impressive performances to start the season, Aidan McConnell and Erin McKinney of the Wisconsin women’s soccer team have been recognized with Big Ten weekly honors, the conference announced Monday.

McConnell was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, while McKinney split Co-Goalkeeper of the Week honors. The defensive duo played key roles in leading the Badgers to a pair of shutouts in Texas, as they drew a 0-0 outcome at No. 7 TCU before topping Baylor, 2-0.

Playing in temperatures over 90 degrees, McConnell was the lone field player to log all 180 minutes on the pitch for the Badgers. The sophomore helped fend off 13 corner kicks by the Horned Frogs in the opener before aiding the Badgers to another clean sheet versus the Bears.

McKinney, who made her collegiate debut in net, made 13 saves over the week and was one of three Big Ten goalies to not surrender a goal over the first two matches. McKinney tallied 10 saves, including a trio over the last three minutes, at Baylor.

Wisconsin will host Loyola on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. for its home opener.
