Man Utd ‘luring’ target with ‘handsome’ €11m wage offer to replace current ‘shaky candidate’

Man Utd target Trapp

Man Utd are reportedly attempting to ‘lure’ Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp to the club by offering him around €11m per year.

The Red Devils have been active in the market this summer, with Casemiro joining Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia in signing for the club.

They are at the start of a new era with Erik ten Hag in charge. Not much appears to have changed behind the scenes though as they still have much to do before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

One of their priorities is to sign a new goalkeeper. Dean Henderson is now on loan at Nottm Forest so Man Utd need to bring in some competition for David De Gea.

The Spaniard has put in some concerning performances of late, with the worst one coming against Brentford earlier this month.

Despite criticism coming his way, earlier this year De Gea claimed that he is “very comfortable” at playing out from the back:

“What a goalkeeper has to do is to stop goals going in; that’s the most important thing,” De Gea told UEFA.

“And then, if you have the talent or the quality to be able to play with your feet and have good vision, that’s phenomenal.

“I feel very comfortable playing with my feet, playing out from the back, following the lead of my team, but it depends on the coach and the style of play.

“[With Spain we] play with a very high defensive line. I’ve played this way since I was in the youth teams. [At United] we try to play with a high line, but some players are very fast and very talented, and if the pressing is not good enough, you can have problems at the back.

“But for the goalkeeper, you need to be off your line, looking out for any potential pass in behind to be able to help your defence.”

Sport 1 (via Sport Witness) are reporting that United’s hierarchy are not sold on De Gea though as they consider him to be a ‘shaky candidate’.

This is why Trapp is being targeted. The Frankfurt shot-stopper has reportedly been ‘promised a regular place’ in the team, which is seemingly threatening De Gea’s spot.

To ‘lure’ him to move to Man Utd, the English club are preparing to offer him a ‘handsome’ yearly wage which is worth €10-11m.

An offer for Trapp is yet to arrive but the report notes that the ‘poker game’ around him is ‘picking up more and more speed’.
