Hoosier Trio Selected to Big Ten Watch List

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A veteran Indiana men’s soccer trio was highlighted by the Big Ten Conference Monday (Aug. 22) as senior forward Herbert Endeley, redshirt senior defender Daniel Munie and redshirt senior forward Ryan Wittenbrink were named Big Ten Players to Watch.

The announcement came as part of the Big Ten’s preseason poll, in which the Hoosiers are ranked No. 2. The Hoosiers are the top-ranked Big Ten program in each of the three national preseason polls, coming in as high as No. 8 by Top Drawer Soccer.

Endeley was one of IU’s top playmakers last season, tallying two goals and a team-best six assists. For his work, Endeley was selected second-team All-Big Ten for a second straight season.

Munie earned his first All-America accolades in 2021 after being named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. As a redshirt junior, Munie led the Hoosier defense to 13 clean sheets, including a span of seven straight in October which stands as the second-longest single-season streak in program history. Munie will wear the captain’s armband this season from his center back position.

Wittenbrink contributed all 2021 long, totaling eight goals and seven assists between the adjusted 2020-21 season and the 2021 fall campaign. In 20 matches, Wittenbrink tallied three goals and five assists last season and assisted goals in three of IU’s last four matches, including both NCAA Tournament matches.

Endeley, Munie, Wittenbrink and the Hoosiers kick off the 2022 season Friday, August 26, with a marquee matchup at reigning national champion and No. 1-ranked Clemson. The contest will be televised on ESPNU with a 7 p.m. ET start time.

The 2022 season will be the 50th varsity season for Indiana men’s soccer and a celebration of the program’s Tradition of Excellence. IU men’s soccer is an eight-time NCAA Champion, 17-time Big Ten regular season champion, 15-time Big Ten Tournament Champion and has made 46 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including an active streak of 35 consecutive berths.
