Evra slams Man Utd over ‘desperate’ transfers, £60m signing shows club are ‘making same mistakes’

Evra slams Man Utd

Patrice Evra has criticised Manchester United as he believes that their recent business shows that they are in “desperation” mode.

As Evra states, the Red Devils do look to be panicking before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.

This comes after Man Utd lost their opening two games of the 2022/23 campaign. Their second defeat came in embarrassing fashion against Brighton.

Transfer gossip: Man Utd summer spending to tip over £300m as De Jong deal back

There is not long to go before the transfer window closes but United still have quite a bit of business to do.

They are starting by signing Casemiro from Real Madrid. This transfer came about out of nowhere as United were focusing on buying FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The deal for Casemiro is worth an initial £60m and it should be formally announced on Monday.

The five-time Champions League will become Ten Hag’s new favoured holding midfielder. The Dutchman has already stated that they have been missing a player like Casemiro:

“I think we had a good basic pre-season,” Ten Hag said (via Manchester Evening News).

“But then our nine, (Anthony) Martial injured, (Cristiano) Ronny not fit, the six holding midfield position is not there, the first game we had two centre-halves who have not played together and also the goalie was not in the best period.

“There is a clear reason why but I know we will fix that and also the results will be better. That showed already in pre-season.”

Club legend Evra is not so chipper about the signing, however. He thinks it is a worrying sign that this signing is being made after the season has started:

“If you buy any players now it’s desperation and it won’t be good,” Evra told Betfair.

“Those things should have been done before pre-season. Don’t get me wrong, when everyone saw pre-season I can understand why [Erik] ten Hag, the staff and the board would have thought the squad looks good.

“Who are they going to bring to Manchester United and who is coming to play for United? If you have Chelsea, Liverpool, even Tottenham – a player will pick them instead of Man United.

“De Jong doesn’t want to come to United, he’d prefer to go to Chelsea. There’s a lot of noise in the papers, but we’re doing the same mistakes. I’m a positive man but things don’t look good. Simple.”
