Uncooperative weather forces cancellation of Sun Devil Soccer’s game vs. Hawai’i

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil soccer team’s contest versus Hawai’i was canceled on Sunday night due to ongoing lightning in the area.

For the Sun Devils (0-0-1), it was the second time in four days they were ready to play in front of their fans. In both instances, Mother Nature would prove to be the most difficult opponent to overcome.

On Thursday, lightning forced the suspension of ASU’s season opener vs. South Dakota State in the 48th minute of play. Fortunately for both teams, the game was able to be completed on Friday morning and ended in a 1-1 tie.

On Sunday, both teams were preparing to start their warmups when it was determined the field would have to be cleared due to lightning. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the weather breaking which ultimately forced the cancellation of the game.

The Sun Devils will now prepare for their first road trip of the season as they will travel north to face Boise State on Thursday and Denver on Sunday.
