No. 15 USC Women’s Soccer Shuts Down Long Beach State, 1-0

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 15 USC women’s soccer team bounced back from an opening day loss with a strong performance on the road at Long Beach State, taking down the Beach 1-0 on Sunday night.
 
The Trojans improve to 1-1 with the victory, giving head coach Jane Alukonis the first win of her career. Aaliyah Farmer provided the only goal of the night in the 7th minute for USC, finishing a corner from Croix Bethune.
 
The Trojans outshot Long Beach 7-1 in the first half, nearly missing several more goals in the early minutes of play. The USC defense held the home team to just eight shots on the day while the visitors had 17. Anna Smith picked up her first clean sheet of the season, making two saves in the contest.
 
GOALS
7′ – USC: Aaliyah Farmer (assisted by Croix Bethune) – Bethune sent a corner into the box and Farmer got her head on it near the far post to knock it in.
