COLUMBUS, Ohio – Thanks to a late goal by graduate Maddy Lowe, the Ohio State women’s soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Missouri Sunday afternoon in Columbia, Mo. The Buckeyes return to Columbus 2-0 on the season after defeating Kansas, 1-0, on Thursday.

Captains Kayla Fischer and Lowe scored in the 34th and 89th minutes, respectively, while goaltenders Kat Robinson and Molly Pritchard combined for four saves to give the Buckeyes their second consecutive win of the season.

How it Happened

Fischer put the Buckeyes on the board first with a goal in the 34th minute. The forward fought her way through two Tiger defenders and placed the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal to put Ohio State in the lead. Kat Robinson made two saves in the opening frame to keep the Tigers scoreless as the Buckeyes went into the half with the one-goal lead.

Ohio State started the second half with a couple of great chances by Fischer and Kine Flotre but was unable to find the net. Missouri snuck one past Pritchard in the 71st minute to tie the game at 1-all.

With the clock winding down, Ella Giannola made a play to Lowe at the top of the Missouri penalty box. Lowe found the back of the net in the 81st minute to push Ohio State into the lead.

Pritchard, who earns the win in goal for the Buckeyes, tallied two saves on the day to help preserve the Ohio State lead.

Notes

  • Lowe’s game-winning goal is her first goal since the 2019 season. She’s back on the pitch after missing the 2021 season due to injury and has overcome multiple injuries in her Buckeye career to lead to this triumphant return.
  • This was the sixth meeting all-time between the two programs. With the win, Ohio State ties the all-time series 3-3.
  • Fischer’s first-half goal is her 21st of her Buckeye career. She now ranks tied for 14th in program history with Lauren Granberg (2009-12) in career goals scored.
  • Fischer led the Buckeye attack with six shots on the day while Flotre added two.
  • Pritchard, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., picked up her second win of the season.
  • Ohio State outshot Missouri 13-11 with nine of those shots falling on target.
