Arsenal target Zinchenko’s compatriot as cheaper alternative to Paqueta

Arsenal-linked Mudryk

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Ukraine international Mykhaylo Mudryk this summer as a cheaper alternative to Lucas Paqueta.

If he signs, Mudryk will add to what has already been a successful summer for the Gunners. Over £100m has been spent to sign the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

William Saliba is also back at the club following several loan spells in Ligue 1. With their new look team, Arsenal have won their first three games of the 2022/23 season.

Zinchenko was keen to play down Arsenal’s promising start to the season after they beat AFC Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday evening:

“It’s just the beginning of the season,” Zinchenko said.

“There’s a lot of games ahead of us, there’s a lot of things to improve, but we just need to be focused on the next one, the next one, the next one.

“We need to analyse what we have done well, what we should improve, what we should change and we know the manager is going to tell us. We need to show our best performance every single week.”

He added: “[Saliba] is incredible.

“It looks like this guy has got a lot of experience in his bag, but he’s still so young. Fingers crossed, we’ve got an unbelievable centre-back. He’s such a nice guy and he deserves this.”

21-year-old Mudryk plays with Zinchenko on the international stage for Ukraine. He made his senior debut for his country earlier this year.

The left winger plays for Shakhtar Donetsk and he was involved in nine goals in just 19 appearances last season across all competitions.

Arsenal are thought to be in the market for a new winger, with them also being linked with Paqueta in recent months.

The Brazil international has shone for Lyon in recent seasons and he has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Lyon want £33m with add-ons for the talented 24-year-old.

Media Foot Marseille are reporting that Mudryk would cost Arsenal ‘more than’ €20m (£17m).

The report states that the winger is ‘hotly courted’ with Arsenal one team growing ‘more and more active in his file’.

A bid has not been submitted yet and Shakhtar are in a strong position as Mudryk is still under contract until 2026.
