Alabama Soccer Falls To Miami Sunday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Alabama soccer team (1-1-0) fell 0-1 to Miami (1-0-1) Sunday at Cobb Stadium.

“Disappointing result for sure. Thought we started the game well, having a lot of the ball and territory, but we struggled to create any clear-cut chances. As the first half wore on, we gave some bad balls and then started making too many mistakes. We gave them some life and momentum and they were able to capitalize on it.

“I thought we were good in the second half. We had the majority of the ball and territory and were able to get a few good looks. But credit to Miami for keeping the ball out of the net.”

How It Happened

Despite Alabama dominating the shot column in the opening few minutes of the game, Miami found the back of the net in the 32nd minute. Julia Edwards passed the ball over to Megan Morgan at the top of the box. Morgan took two touches then fired a shot into the lower left corner of the goal. Alabama led the half in shots 6-1.

The Crimson Tide continued to apply pressure, dominating the second half 16-2 in shots. However, UA was unable to find the equalizer.

Game Notes

  • Riley Tanner led the team in shots with four, with Gessica Skorka and Felicia Knox both adding three shots to the night
  • Gianna Paul recorded her first career start for the Tide
  • Overall, Alabama led 22-3 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks
  • Tanner’s four shots tied for career high, matching her shot attempt against Kentucky in 2021
  • McKinley Crone tallied one save in the game
