‘An exciting signing for us’: Brighton boss Graham Potter is relishing the chance to develop £15m signing Pervis Estupinan following the £62m sale of defender Marc Cucurella to Chelsea earlier in the summer

  • Brighton boss Graham Potter looking forward to developing Pervis Estupinan
  • The left-back joined the Seagulls for £15million from LaLiga side Villarreal
  • Estupinan signed with the view of replacing Marc Cucurella after Chelsea switch
  • Potter earned reputation of improving players like Cucurella and Yves Bissouma

Graham Potter is relishing the prospect of turning another relatively unknown name, new signing Pervis Estupinan, into another shrewd acquisition.

In this transfer window alone, Brighton have recouped more than £80million from the sales of Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma, who were both unfamiliar quantities when joining the Premier League.

It’s a mark of the job Potter has done that the club can adjust to losing key players and continue to make strides and the £15m signing of Estupinan from Villarreal is another exciting addition.

Potter has built quite the reputation for his astute work in the transfer market and hasn’t played down the chances of Estupinan reaching similar levels.

‘It’s down to the player and how well they fit into the team and how well things go for them,’ Potter explained when asked if his new signing could follow Cucurella’s lead. ‘We’ll try our best to help him settle in as quickly as we can and we’ll try our best to get him on to the pitch so he can show off his qualities as much as possible.

‘Then it’s down to the quality of the player but he’s got attributes that are useful in the Premier League. He’s fast, strong and can get forward from left back.

‘In the last couple of transfer windows we lost Marc, we lost Dan Burn so it was an area that we thought we could do with having. He’s an exciting signing for us.’
