DURHAM – No. 12 Duke men’s soccer used a barrage of goals to power past Longwood, 7-1, in the final exhibition of the season on Friday night at Koskinen Stadium.
The Blue Devils outshot the Lancers 22-4 on the evening and were led on offense by four points from freshman Kenan Hot.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Shakur Mohammed opened the scoring just 53 seconds into the game off a great pass from Hot and the Blue Devils never looked back.
- Senior Scotty Taylor scored his team leading third goal of the preseason just under six minutes later, following a strong cross into the box from junior Nick Pariano.
- Pariano added his own goal in the 26th minute before freshman Wayne Frederick scored his first goal to give a Duke a 4-0 halftime lead.
- Hot finished the day with a goal and two assists, picking up the first points of his career. The midfielder has started all three preseason games since arriving in Durham.
- Duke continued to pour on goals in the second half, as Hot scored his first and Miguel Ramirez chipped one over an out of position Longwood goalkeeper to make it 6-0.
- Junior Luke Thomas polished off a victory by scoring the goal of the match, blasting a one-time volley from outside the box past the outstretched goalkeeper for a 7-0 lead.
- Longwood got a late goal off a corner kick from Matt Fitzer to cut the lead to 7-1, but Duke remained in control for the remainder of the match.
