The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) travels to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, Aug. 20. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT at PayPal Park. (TV: KCOP 13, Estrella 62 and ESPN+; Radio: 710 AM ESPN / ESPN LA app and 980 AM La Mera Mera)


LAFC currently leads the race for the 2022 MLS Supporters Shield with an 18-4-3 record and a league-best 57 points. Historically LAFC holds the advantage over San Jose with a 7-4-0 lifetime record against their rivals to the north including a 3-2 victory earned in the first meeting between the teams this season on May 28 at Banc of California Stadium. LAFC will look to build on the club-record seven game win streak the team has strung together when they face off with the Earthquakes on Saturday.

San Jose enters the match with a 5-9-11 record (40 points) and currently sit outside the playoff picture. The Earthquakes are on the hunt for a victory, a result that has illuded the team in their last six regular season games.

NEWS & NOTES:

With Saturday’s win over D.C. United, LAFC is now 18-4-3 on the season for a league-best 57 points. The club is nine points ahead of Austin FC and the Philadelphia Union in the race for the Supporters Shield.

The 57 points for LAFC match their total from their inaugural 2018 season. Only in 2019 has the club recorded more than 57 points in a season.

Saturday’s win extended LAFC’s winning streak in league games to a club record seven games. This is the second longest winning streak in MLS since the end of the shootout in 2000. Only the Seattle Sounders have a longer regular season winning streak than LAFC, winning nine straight in 2018.

The win was also LAFC’s seventh straight home victory, setting a new club record.

LAFC is now a perfect 14-0-0 when scoring first this season.

With the goal on Saturday tonight, LAFC has now scored in 39 consecutive regular season home games dating back to August 22, 2020. That is the second longest streak in MLS history. D.C. United scored in 64 consecutive regular season home games during the 1996-99 seasons.

LAFC’s lone goal on Saturday came in the second half. LAFC has now outscored its opponents 37-6 in the second half this season for a +31 goal differential.

Dating back to May 28, Cristian Arango has either a goal or an assist in 10 of his last 12 games, scoring 10 goals and adding three assists in that time.
