Rooney blasts Mbappe for ‘deliberate’ Messi incident

Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi compete for the ball

Wayne Rooney has called for someone to remind egomaniac Kylian Mbappe who Lionel Messi is after he “deliberately” shouldered the Argentine.

Mbappe chose to renew his Paris Saint-Germain contract in May, snubbing interest from Real Madrid after flirting with the Spanish side for over a year.

Los Blancos tried to sign the World Cup winner last year and were confident in acquiring him as a free agent this summer.

It was not meant to be, however, as Mbappe opted to stay in the French capital with Messi and Neymar.

The 23-year-old’s new contract is an interesting one, to say the least.

He essentially penned a three-year deal to become PSG’s new general manager, as well as their striker.

Mbappe clearly wants to be the main man in Paris, and this was evident from a few incidents in his first appearance of the season on Saturday.

In the fashion of a seven-year-old, the 23-year-old France forward threw a bit of a tantrum when one of his teammates did not give him the ball.

If he had the power to do so or if it was a game down the park, Mbappe definitely would have grabbed the ball and stormed off home so nobody else could play.

In the same match, he was visibly annoyed when Neymar took a penalty, despite the PSG general manager obviously wanting to take the shot from 12 yards.

He might have missed a spot-kick 20 minutes prior, but he is the top dog and wants to be treated as such.

Neymar did what Mbappe couldn’t and found the back of the net from the penalty spot in the club’s 5-2 home win against Montpellier.

On his way to asking the Brazilian player for the ball before the penalty was taken, Mbappe brushed past Messi with his shoulder.

Messi looked a bit shocked by this and unsurprisingly the clip went viral on social media as everyone who didn’t know already was able to realise how much maturing Mbappe has to do.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney saw the clip from the weekend and was not impressed.

The former Derby County manager said that Mbappe’s ego is the biggest he has ever seen and that someone needs to remind him that Messi had four Ballon d’Or honours by the time he was 23 years old.

“A player of 22 or 23 who deliberately shoulders Messi… I’ve never seen such a big…
