Man Utd told to back off from ‘untouchable’ Leeds star; ‘working to sign’ Bundesliga ‘keeper

Man Utd target Illan Meslier

Leeds United have told their arch-rivals Man Utd that Illan Meslier is ‘untouchable’ as they have ‘no intention’ to sell the goalkeeper.

In what is a surprise to absolutely no one, Man Utd are scrambling for signings with just two weeks to go until the summer transfer window closes.

They have already signed Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia this summer. But on the evidence of their defeats against Brighton and Brentford, they are in need of a lot more.

Given his experience in the Bundesliga and internationally, Sommer certainly is a viable option to come in as cover for De Gea.

Romano is also reporting that United are ‘working on’ a deal to sign Sommer.

He would be a cheaper alternative to other targets as his current contract at Gladbach expires in 2023.

The difficulty is that Sommer would be ‘tempted’ by a fresh contract offer to remain at Gladbach. So it is not cut and dry, which is in…
