Atletico make stance clear as Man Utd declare interest in forward on Casemiro trip

Man Utd target Joao Felix runs

Man Utd declared their interest in Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix during the recruitment team’s recent trip to Spain, according to reports.

The Red Devils are desperate to strengthen their squad before the end of the transfer window with daily speculation linking them to numerous players.

Their need for new signings has been made all the more urgent following a terrible start to the season that saw them lose both their opening fixtures.

Five barriers to Erik ten Hag imposing his style and philosophy on Manchester United

Man Utd lost 2-1 to Brighton in Erik ten Hag’s first competitive match but much worse was to come on Saturday, as Brentford demolished the Dutchman’s side 4-0.

It is understood that Ten Hag is keen to bring in two midfielders and a forward this summer but they don’t seem close to sealing any deals in the immediate future.

A move for Frenkie de Jong looks increasingly unlikely as he continues his negotiations with Barcelona over deferred pay they owe him from during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, while a deal for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot collapsed yesterday with the parties too far apart.

They also suffered an embarrassing U-turn last week as they were forced to end negotiations for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic after facing a backlash from fans.

And now Man Utd are turning to fresh targets with Spanish publication Marca claiming that as well as looking to seal a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro, the Red Devils also ‘have other objectives’ while staying in Madrid.

One of those ‘objectives’ is Felix – who Atletico signed from Benfica for £114m – after ’emissaries’ from Man Utd ‘met on Tuesday night with people from’ Atletico Madrid to discuss transfers, ‘both at the Metropolitano and at a central Madrid hotel’.

Man Utd made clear their ‘intention to sign’ Felix this summer but Atletico clearly stated that they would not be ‘getting rid’ of one of their best players ‘at this time’.

United are keen to bring in a new striker with Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo hoping to leave the club and Antony Martial and Marcus Rashford their only other options up front.

The Daily Telegraph are claiming that Man Utd could offer as much as £50m for 30-year-old Casemiro with the Brazilian next on their list of midfield targets.

However, one report in Spain does claim that a deal is unlikely as Casemiro doesn’t want to uproot his family from Madrid to England.
