August 16, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (8-7-9, 33 pts., 8th in East) travel north of the border for a two-game trip this week, beginning with Wednesday’s midweek match against Toronto FC (8-12-5, 29 pts., 12th in East) at BMO Field. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and airs on WSBK-TV38, myRITV (Rhode Island), and CoziTV (Western Mass.), with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action. Wednesday night’s contest also airs on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub and 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.

As they enter the final 10 games of the regular season, the Revolution carry a four-game shutout streak into the midweek match, tied for a club record, having not conceded a goal in 371 minutes of action. The Revolution have never recorded five consecutive clean sheets in their 27-year history. If they can hold Toronto FC and their dynamic attack, led by Italian Designated Players Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, off the scoresheet for 50 minutes, the club will set a new benchmark for most consecutive minutes of MLS action without allowing a goal.

Wednesday’s contest marks the second meeting of the season between New England and Toronto. Djordje Petrović, whose 1.00 goals-against average ranks third in MLS, recorded a three-save shutout in his first match against the Reds, a 0-0 draw, in which he delayed Insigne from opening his MLS account by denying him from the penalty spot. Through 11 starts, the Serbian goalkeeper has logged five clean sheets and ranks second league-wide with an 80.0 save percentage (min. 30 saves).

Revolution are winners of back-to-back matches following Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over D.C. United. Midfielder Carles Gil netted the game-winning goal, his fifth tally of the 2022 campaign, with assists from midfielder Tommy McNamara and defender Brandon Bye. McNamara has distributed three helpers in the last two games, while Bye notched his sixth assist to equal the club record for assists by a defender in a season. Gil ranks among the league’s top 10 with 17 combined goals and assists this year.

With several injuries to the squad, New England called upon multiple Homegrown Players to guide the attack against D.C. Damian Rivera and Justin Rennicks, both Revolution Academy alumni, started together for the first time in MLS. Off the bench, 17-year-old midfielder Noel Buck, from Arlington, Mass., suited up for his MLS debut with a…
