COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Ohio State opens its 30th season of women’s soccer with a two-match road trip against Kansas and Missouri. The Buckeyes will take on Kansas on Aug. 18 and then play at Missouri on Aug. 21. Both matches will be streamed online. The Kansas match can been seen on ESPN+ and the Missouri match will be streamed on SEC Network+.

  • The Buckeyes have a 16-9-4 all-time record in season-openers but has not won their season-opener since 2017.
  • Thursday’s matchup will be the first-ever meeting between Ohio State and Kansas. The Buckeyes are 2-3 all-time in five previous meetings with Missouri. The Tigers won the most recent meeting 3-1 in Columbus in 2019. They also won the only previous meeting in Columbia, 1-0 in 2011.
  • Ohio State head coach Lori Walker-Hock is in her 26th season leading the program. She is 271-188-54 as the Buckeyes’ head coach and has won a pair of Big Ten regular season titles.
  • Walker-Hock returns to Lawrence, Kansas, and will coach against her former team for the first time. She began her coaching career at Kansas, leading the Jayhawks during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. She was the first coach in Kansas history.
  • Seniors Talani Barnett and Kayla Fischer as well as sophomore Sydney Jones were all named Big Ten Women’s Soccer Players to Watch this fall. Barnett has played the most game of any player on the roster. Fischer is in the top 15 in program history in both goals and assists. Jones was a member of the Big Ten All-Freshmen Team last season and earned a spot in the U.S. U-20 National Team roster this summer.
  • Fischer was also named to the United Soccer Coaches list of Forwards to Watch this season.
  • The Buckeyes were picked by the league’s head coaches to finish fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll.
  • Last season, Ohio State was 9-9-2 overall and made its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance.
