Four Separate Goal Scorers Keep 18-Match Home Unbeaten Streak Alive

CHESTER, Pa. – Philadelphia Union defeated Chicago Fire FC 4-1 on Saturday night at Subaru Park. With the win, the Union remain in first place in the Eastern Conference with 48 points. In the 16th minute midfielder Daniel Gazdag scored on a counter-attack assisted by Julian Carranza and Mikael Uhre. Gazdag lofted his shot over the Chicago keeper to put the Union on the board early. Defender Jack Elliott scored his first goal of the season in the 37th minute after a shot by defender Olivier Mbaizo was saved by the Chicago keeper who dropped it, allowing Elliott to hit a powerful right footed shot from close range to double the Union lead. In the second half, Chicago midfielder Chris Mueller slotted a shot to the bottom right corner of the net off a Xherdan Shaqiri pass in the 49th minute. Union forward Julian Carranza was quick to answer with a goal of his own in the 53rd minute as Uhre’s one-on-one with Chicago’s keeper was saved, landing in front of Carranza who chipped a shot into the empty net. Forward Cory Burke capped off the scoring for the Union in the 82nd minute after Mbaizo slid a pass in front of goal for Burke to corral and strike in from point blank range.


The Union are on the road for their next match as they take on FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday, August 17th (9:00 p.m. ET / NBC Sports Philadelphia).

TEAM NOTES

Defender Kai Wagner made his 100th regular season start for the Union, becoming just the sixth defender in club history to reach the century mark for starts.

Defender Jack Elliott scored his ninth career goal and his first of the season.

Cory Burke has scored seven of his 23 career MLS goals against the Fire, having not scored more than three against any other opponent.

The Union are unbeaten in their last 18 home regular season matches (13W-5D) dating back to last September, the longest home unbeaten run in club history. Philadelphia has outscored opponents, 40-8 over those matches, including 19-2 over the last four.

The Union have scored 21 goals in the last five home MLS matches. Only LAFC (22 in 2019) and LA Galaxy (22 in 1998 and 2015) have scored more in a span of five home matches in league history.

Midfielder Daniel Gazdag scored his 12th goal and earned hix sixth assist of the season.

Forward Julian Carranza recorded his ninth goal and sixth assist of the season.
