After last week’s disappointment against Brighton, things got even worse for United at Brentford as the home side’s aggressive start was compounded by a slipshod, error-strewn United display that saw the Bees roar into a scarcely believable 4-0 lead before half-time.
Brentford took the lead after only 10 minutes thanks to a tone-setting mistake by United goalkeeper David De Gea.
The Spaniard allowed Josh Dasilva’s weak long-range shot squirm through his hands and roll into the net.
De Gea was at fault again nine minutes later, selling Christian Eriksen short with a pass and allowing Mathias Jensen to nip in and double the lead.

Former United defender Gary Neville, working as co-commentator for Sky Sports, was all but lost for words.
Speaking after the fourth goal, he said: “What a first half of football we’re seeing here, the annihilation of Manchester United.”
When United boss Ten Hag appeared on screen, Neville added: “He’s got nothing to say, he’s got nowhere to go. What do you do a half-time if you’re Erik ten Hag? What can you possibly say to those 11 players who have been out there in the first half? What can you say?
“I think you’ve just got to send them out again, that would be it. I’m not quite sure what else he can do.”
Brentford managed the game comfortably after the break to see out an extraordinary victory that will reverberate around Europe with Manchester United now rock bottom of the early Premier League table.
The good news for United, though, is that things get a bit easier now. They’ve got Liverpool next week…
