Chelf’s Goal Not Enough in 2-1 Exhibition Loss to San Diego State

TUCSON, Ariz. – As the second season under head coach Becca Moros draws closer, the Arizona soccer team closed out the exhibition portion of the 2022 schedule on Thursday with a 2-1 loss to San Diego State at Mulcahy Stadium.
 
Arizona junior midfielder Megan Chelf scored the lone goal for the Wildcats in the 36th minute with the assist going to Nicole Dallin. The buildup to the goal began when freshman Ella Hatteberg found Dallin the middle of the pitch. Upon receiving the pass, Dallin quickly turned and found Chelf running in from the right side just outside the 18-year box. Chelf made her way through two defenders and when the SDSU keeper came off her line to try to take possession, Chelf calmly chipped the ball over her head, takin two bounces before crossing the goal line.
 
“It was a tremendous goal,” Moros said. “We have seen that from (Megan) in training but I had yet to see it in the game. It’s very difficult to chip a ball over a goalkeeper while the ball is rolling away from you, but she has the ability to do that. And the ball (from Dallin) to put her in was tremendous. We hope to see more of that as the season goes on.”
 
Arizona took the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, holding a 9-6 edge in shots over the first 45 minutes. Sophomore Nyota Katmbo and senior Madison Goerlinger both had solid chances in the box in the first half but were unable to find the back of the…
