Chelsea are set take a HUGE financial hit on flop Timo Werner as they ‘agree £25.3m deal to sell him back to RB Leipzig’… just two years after splashing out almost DOUBLE to bring him to the Premier League

  • RB Leipzig have struck a deal with Chelsea to re-sign Timo Werner
  • The German striker is set to move to the Bundesliga club for £25.3million
  • Chelsea bought Werner for £47.5m back in 2020, but he has failed to deliver
  • They are now set to take a major financial hit on the 26-year-old striker

Timo Werner is reportedly on the verge of rejoining RB Leipzig after the German club reached an agreement with Chelsea over a transfer fee.

The 26-year-old left Leipzig to move to Stamford Bridge for £47.5million in 2020, but he is set to return to his former club for just €30m (£25.3m), according to Sky Germany.

Serie A giants Juventus have also shown an interest in signing Werner this summer, but the German has opted for a move back to Leipzig.

With the deal close to being completed, Chelsea are in line to lose £22.2m on the player that was supposed to solve their striker problems when he arrived in west London just two years ago.

Instead, Werner’s time at Chelsea has been largely disappointing, with the forward netting just 10 league goals in his two full seasons at the club.

He did win the Champions League in his first campaign with the Blues in 2020-21, though, and netted in their semi-final triumph against Real Madrid.

However, that was as good as it got for the striker. He found himself behind Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku in the pecking order last term, making just 15 top flight starts all season.

Following Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan on loan earlier this summer, Werner may have hoped for more game time this season, but it has not been forthcoming.

He was left out of the squad altogether for Saturday’s trip to Everton, signalling that his time at Stamford Bridge was up.

Werner will now look to rediscover his best form at Leipzig – a club that he flourished…
