Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has said that Cristiano Ronaldo should’ve stayed “until the end” of their recent friendly against Rayo Vallecano.
There has been plenty of controversy surrounding the Portugal international over the summer after he asked the club if he could leave this summer.
However, a recent meeting led to no new conclusion with Ronaldo still keen to play in the Champions League this season and Man Utd refusing to entertain offers for their star striker.

The 37-year-old missed the club’s pre-season tour due to ‘family reasons’ too and has only played 45 minutes against Spanish side Rayo Vallecano ahead of the new campaign.
Ronaldo left Old Trafford ten minutes before the end of their match against Rayo on Sunday with the Portguese striker refusing to hang around for Ten Hag’s debrief.
Sky Sports claimed at the time that Man Utd had confirmed to them that they had ‘on issue’ with Ronaldo leaving early as he was ‘one of a number of players to do so’.
But now Ten Hag has surprisingly spoken out about the incident with the Dutch coach unhappy that the Man Utd striker didn’t stick around for his team-mates.
When asked about Ronaldo leaving early, Ten Hag told Dutch newspaper AD: “I certainly don’t condone this. This is unacceptable. For everyone. We are a team and you have to stay until the end.”
It remains to be seen if Ronaldo plays a part in their opening weekend fixture against Graham Potter’s Brighton side with reports claiming Ten Hag will go for Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho as their front three.
A number of pundits have criticised Ronaldo this summer and Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf didn’t like what he saw from the Man Utd striker at the end of the Rayo Vallecano friendly.
Leboeuf told ESPN: “It is (wrong) for me. It’s not professional with all due respect and the fact I appreciate the player and what he achieved in his career but it’s not professional and disrespectful towards the club.
“You have to stay, you have to show respect to the other players, to the fans that came, you still belong to the club, you signed for it, you have to play for them, didn’t make any mistakes, they want to keep you so the only thing you have to say is at least sit on the bench and wait until the end of the game.”
