Man Utd are a ‘tempting team’ for defender but €20m transfer hinges on Chelsea player

Man Utd target Sergino Dest runs with the ball

Premier League side Man Utd are hoping to sign Barcelona defender Sergino Dest this summer, according to reports.

The USA international has been at Barcelona for two years now after swapping Eredivisie giants Ajax for La Liga in a deal worth around €26m in 2020.

Dest has been used as a rotation option by the Catalan side with the 21-year-old making 23 La Liga starts in his first campaign and 17 last season.

Transfer gossip: Chelsea to splurge £200m-plus on Cucurella, De Jong and more

Azpilicueta would be a ‘sure starter’ if Chelsea allowed him to leave for Barcelona and the La Liga outfit would be ‘fully prepared to sell Dest’ if the Spaniard arrives at the Camp Nou.

Sport continues: ‘The American has always wanted to stay at FC Barcelona, but United is a tempting team and he feels that he will have less game-time at Barca.’

Ten Hag is making numerous changes at Man Utd as he looks to turn around their fortunes after a poor season in which they finished sixth in the Premier League.

One of those changes was to appoint former Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy as a first-team coach.

Speaking about his role at Man Utd this season, McCarthy told the club’s official website: “[I want to] help these young players, push them, change their mindset and really try to make the difference to United this season.”

“Hopefully this season we’re going to see a completely revived United, a hungry bunch of players and a team that’s going to be able to challenge to…
