GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Twelve ACC soccer teams are ranked in the preseason United Soccer Coaches preseason polls, released Tuesday. With the seasons approaching in just over two weeks, six ACC men’s teams and six women’s sides are among the top 25 in their respective polls. Both totals are the most of any conference.
 
For the 11th time, the ACC boasts the reigning national champions in both men’s and women’s soccer, and those teams enter the 2022 preseason ranked No. 1, with Clemson on the men’s side and Florida State on the women’s side.
 
After winning the program’s first national championship since 1987, Clemson earned all the first-place votes to top the 2022 men’s preseason poll. The Tigers are one of three ACC squads in the top 10, joined by reigning ACC champion Notre Dame at No. 4 and Pitt at No. 7. The Fighting Irish joined Clemson in the NCAA College Cup last season, while Pitt reached the NCAA Quarterfinals.
 
Duke is ranked No. 12 in the men’s preseason poll, while Wake Forest is No. 15 and North Carolina is No. 24. Virginia Tech is the first team outside the top 25 in the receiving votes category.
 
After capturing its third national title in the last eight years in 2021, Florida State leads four ACC teams in the women’s top 10 for 2022. Duke is ranked No. 2 and is followed by Virginia at No. 4 and North Carolina at No. 10. ACC programs earned every first-place vote, with FSU claiming five, Duke two and Virginia one.
 
Notre Dame is ranked No. 16, while Clemson is No. 25. Wake Forest is the first team outside the top 25 in the receiving votes category.
 
The 2022 ACC women’s soccer regular season kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 18, with all 14 teams in action. The 2022 ACC Women’s Championship begins Sunday, Oct. 30, on campus sites before moving to WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, for the semifinals and championship match on Nov. 3 and 6, respectively.
 
The 2022 ACC men’s soccer season officially gets underway on Thursday, Aug. 25. The 2022 ACC Men’s Soccer Championship begins at campus sites on Wednesday, Nov. 2 and is capped by the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 13, at WakeMed Soccer Park.
