Atlético Ottawa returned home on a beautiful Sunday evening to face two-time CPL champions Forge FC, looking to continue making strides in the league standings and to find a fur-ever home for lovable gentle giant Shadow the rescue dog. As Atlético Ottawa Head Coach Carlos González’s put it in his post-match comments to the media, it was not the game Atleti wanted to play against a good team like Forge, and the visitors made the most of it, serving a 0-4 defeat to Ottawa.

KEY MOMENTS

While it may seem like a match to forget for many, Atlético Ottawa players and coaches were quick to point out that there was plenty to look back on as they prepare for the rest of the season.

It is said that the difference between a good team and a championship team can be measured in moments, and that is the message that Coach González will bring to his squad.

Statistically speaking, notwithstanding the goal differential, Ottawa remained in this match by creating shots and pressing for an opening.

Atleti remains the second most difficult team to score against, with only 19 goals allowed all season (including two off-pattern games of 6 goals against Valour and these 4 goals against Forge).

Atlético Ottawa will go back to work with their eyes firmly on the big picture and end goal, reaching a playoff spot. Despite the dropped points tonight, the team sits firmly in a Top 4 position needed to reach the post-season, 9 points ahead of the fifth place Valour FC.

Time will tell if Shadow and his fellow adoptables present at the match will find a family as the volunteers at the Eastern Ontario Potcake Rescue review the numerous adoption applications received.

There is palpable attention being paid to the local professional soccer team now, and crowds have been consistently growing from game to game.

Sunday evening’s attendance reached 4,399 and the fans were tuned in until the final minute.

A larger number of fans is already expected at next Sunday’s match at TD Place, with ticket sales already surpassing 4,500.

Ottawa will host FC Edmonton next Sunday, August 7th at 2PM ET looking to regain control of its destiny in the Meat Up match presented by Ottawa Valley Meats.
