Transfer gossip: Juve want Manchester United striker but Ronaldo is stuck at Old Trafford

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Juventus

Ronaldo probably wishes that Juventus wanted him and not Anthony Martial or Timo Werner…

RONALDO WANTS OUT NOW
‘CRISTIANO RONALDO will fly into England and demand to leave Manchester United NOW,’ opens the piece in The Sun, who seem to have forgotten that he is under contract so can demand nothing of the sort. All he can really do is ask nicely. But then even that won’t work if nobody wants to buy him, and so far Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Atletico and Napoli have all said no.

Ronaldo wants a permanent transfer away and Manchester United won’t sell so one solution seems to be that Ronaldo goes on loan somewhere for a season and then returns to play at least one year at Old Trafford, assuming they get in the Champions League. But it seems that Ronaldo is not minded for that kind of deal. He wants out NOW.

JUVE TURN TO PREMIER LEAGUE
Juventus clearly have a penchant for failed Premier League strikers because they appear to be shopping almost exclusively in that market. Alvaro Morata is their primary target after he has spent two years with Juventus on loan from Atletico Madrid but Sky Sport Italy claim the Spanish club ‘have very high demands’ for Morata.

That means Juve are looking at alternatives and those alternatives – according to this report – are Manchester United striker Anthony Martial and Chelsea flop Timo Werner. The problem with the former is that United very much need him, but Werner is definitely available – most likely on loan – as he has been sulking and stinking out the place at Chelsea.

Monday had brought talk of Juventus targeting Roberto Firmino so they really do have a type.

SALIBA AGENT MEETS WITH MARSEILLE MAN
Monday night brought an exclusive from the great Fabrizio Romano that ‘Olympique Marseille president Pablo Longoria was in London tonight to meet up with William Saliba’s agent for dinner’. It’s no secret that Marseille would love to buy Saliba after his phenomenal Ligue Un season, but Arsenal will have other ideas.

Saliba has been playing very well in pre-season for Arsenal after spending three years on loan in France and he is very much part of Mikel Arteta’s plans. Saliba was a weapon against Mikel Arteta but might become his Arsenal legacy.

Saliba is yet to sign a new contract with Arsenal and his agent is clearly keeping his options open in case the pre-season promises of Arteta come to nought and he tries to pack him off to Nice on loan.
