Arteta claims ‘top’ Arsenal star ‘ready’ for Premier League after 4-0 win over Chelsea

Mikel Arteta was “really happy” with the Arsenal tour and their display in the 4-0 win over Chelsea.

Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Albert Sambi Lokonga got on the scoresheet as they comfortably beat Thomas Tuchel’s side to maintain their 100 per cent record on their tour of the US.

It was a “worrying” game for Tuchel but another impressive display from Arteta’s side, who had already beaten Nurnberg, Everton and Orlando City before the meeting with their Premier League rivals at the Camping World Stadium in Florida on Sunday.

Jesus’ goal against Chelsea was his fourth in four preseason games but Arteta reserved special praise for two other new additions to the squad, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

“I’m really happy,” Arsenal boss Arteta said. “With the performance in general and with the tour.

“The attitude from a club perspective to show here, and all the work we have done and understand how big we are and the amount of support that we get.

“Then obviously the performance today is a really good example again, that we are moving forward, improving a lot as a team, but don’t get carried away. It’s a test match and there are still a lot of things to do to get better.”

On Saliba, Arteta said: “I am really pleased to see the way he is playing, the way he has adapted to the team, the maturity that he’s shown at 21-years-old, carry on doing it.

“We will keep developing him, he has a huge potential, he is already a top player and we have to make him even better.”

Asked if Saliba was “ready” to make an impact at Arsenal ahead of the new season, Arteta replied: “He looked ready to me today.”

On Zinchenko, Arteta added: “He was desperate to play and I knew that. It was a maximum 45 minutes but you could see straight away he was comfortable.

“He understands everything that I want, he understands the process and I thought he had a really good game.”

Arsenal will now return to London to take on Sevilla at the Emirates next weekend before their opening game of the Premier League season against Crystal Palace on August 5.
