July 23, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1)Greenville Triumph SC News Release

Greenville, S.C.- The Greenville Triumph SC split the points at home against rival, Union Omaha in 0-0 draw Saturday night. Greenville remains undefeated in their last eight matches and continues to lead the league with a 9-4-4 record.

The long-awaited rivalry match between 2021 League Finalists, the Greenville Triumph and Union Omaha kicked off on a sweltering South Carolina night. Registering at 95 degrees at the start whistle, Union Omaha came out hot mirroring the temperature. Omaha put the home side on their heels quickly testing the Greenville backline with a high press. After a few wide attempts the from the Nebraska side, Greenville was able to regain their footing and reverse the attack. Just nine minutes in, a free kick from Aaron Walker nearly makes the game 1-0 but Golden Glove leader, Rashid Nuhu tips the ball above the Omaha net. Omaha maintained possession for most of the final minutes but was unable to penetrate the Greenville defense. The first half concluded with missed opportunities from Greenville and no points on the board, 0-0.

Returning to the pitch, the second half was riddled with fouls and yellow cards including one to each teams’ bench. The remainder of the match proceeded without much consistency from either team. Both squads proved their offensive ability but lacked the final touch to seal the match. Greenville sought their final opportunity in a corner during the final seconds of extra time but, was unable to make a play as the whistle blew to end the match 0-0.

“I think it was one of those games where you could see us having the confidence to actually make things work and make it happen,” said Head Coach John Harkes. “It was just that little final touch, we were a little bit flat tonight, but those games are going to happen. The best thing about it is is that you don’t lose those games.”

“They worked hard in 94+ degrees tonight- it’s difficult- and the fight was there. It was just a small piece missing in the final third.”

The Greenville Triumph will play Tormenta FC for the third and final time this season next Saturday, July 30th for Heroes Night. Join us next weekend as we honor local military and first responders.
