Brighton striker Neal Maupay celebrates his goal

The Premier League side are also in negotiations with Austrian midfielder Florian Grillitsch, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Hoffenheim.

This is according to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph, who has reported that talks have begun over an ‘audacious’ deal to sign Grillitsch ‘from under the noses of top European clubs’.

Arsenal had previously registered an interest in the 26-year-old, while Fabrizio Romano added that Galatasaray have ‘approached the player’ but do not have an agreement on personal terms.

Brighton are ‘optimistic’ they can strike a deal with the former Hoffenheim playmaker and are ‘pushing’ to make it happen.

The free agent joined the Bundesliga side from Werder Bremen in 2017 following the expiry of his contract.

Grillitsch played 150 times for Hoffenheim, scoring eight times. He made 18 appearances last season after struggling with injuries and illness.

While the Seagulls are attempting to bring in the Austrian, they are now ‘weighing up a bid’ from Salernitana for their French striker Maupay, according to The Athletic.

The Serie A outfit have lodged a bid worth ‘around £15m’, three years after Albion bought him from Brentford for £14m.

Maupay has led the scoring charts for Brighton in each of the last three Premier League seasons and is out of contract next summer.

‘Wider interest in Maupay is likely’ with the 25-year-old likely to play second fiddle to German striker Deniz Undav – who joined from Royal Union-Saint-Gilloise in January. Undav spent the remainder of 2021/22 on loan with the Belgian side following his winter move.

Graham Potter also has Danny Welbeck and Leandro Trossard available to him, as well as teenagers Julio Enciso and Evan Ferguson.

Another player Brighton have received an offer for is left-back Marc Cucurella.
