Arsenal told they need ‘top, top players’ to avoid being ‘cut adrift’ from top four

Arsenal need to bring in “top, top players” to avoid being “cut adrift” from the top four, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

The Gunners already signed Fabio Vieira from Porto, Sao Paulo’s Marquinhos and Matt Turner from New England Revolution, before the marquee arrival of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

They’re thought to be close to a second acquisiton from the Premier League champions, with Oleksandr Zinchenko said to be close to a £30m move to the Emirates.

And Agbonlahor says the Ukraine international would be a “great signing”, but warned Arsenal that they need further “top signings” to keep pace with Spurs as they look to battle for the top four.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “For Arsenal it’s a big statement signing Gabriel Jesus, but still, they need more work.

“There’s talk of Zinchenko, who I think will be a great signing, a great addition. He’s versatile, but maybe they need another right-sided winger as back up to Bukayo Saka because Nicolas Pepe has not done it.

“These teams know that they need to keep improving their squad because it’s going to get harder and harder to challenge for the top four.

“Arsenal don’t want to be cut adrift. They want to bring in top, top players because Spurs are doing the same.

“Spurs have had a great window so it’s going to be even harder this season to get that top four and Man United fans, once again, will say that I don’t think they’ve got much chance to get top four again this season.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has lauded the impact Jesus has had on the team after the Brazil international scored his third goal in two games in the 2-0 friendly win over Everton.

Arteta said: “He [Gabriel] creates chaos, he creates uncertainty and he’s always on your shoulder. He’s always there to nick the ball off you, he’s always in front of the goal. He’s a real threat and this is what we need.

“And then he’s the one. The moment we give the ball away he is straight away active and putting pressure and getting his team behind him. He has a lot of leadership skills, I can see straight away what he’s doing with the boys and he’s the type of guy that we want.”
