July 14, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1)Greenville Triumph SC News Release

Statesboro, GA – A team-record five goals was not enough to secure a road victory for the Greenville Triumph, as a furious second half comeback from South Georgia Tormenta FC limited the Triumph to a draw in the highest-scoring match in USL League One history. Greenville saw a 4-0 and a 5-2 lead evaporate as Tormenta rallied in front of the home crowd. Despite the disappointment of the draw, Greenville extended its unbeaten streak to six matches.

Greenville kicked off their Wednesday night match with energy in the attack. Early goals from Venton Evans, Allen Gavilanes, and Jacob Labovitz put Greenville up four, 30 minutes into the first half. After combing in the Greenville 18-yard box, Tormenta’s Kazaiah Sterling, rallied to score their first goal of the night. Late in the half goalkeeper, Paul Christensen, gets booked for a yellow card that resulted in a penalty kick and second Tormenta goal. Seconds remaining in additional time, Jacob Labovitz scored again earning him his second brace of the season and ending the half 5-2 for Greenville.

Greenville returned to the pitch for the final 45′ determined to find the back of the net and extend the lead. However, Tormenta was fortunate on the attack and managed to score two goals five minutes apart to cut the Triumph lead to one. During the final minutes of the match Tormenta tucked another goal away to even the score and end the match 5-5.

Greenville will quickly have to shift focus, as they travel to Virginia on Saturday to take on a tough Richmond Kickers side for the first time in 2022. The club returns home to face Union Omaha on Saturday, July 23rd.
