Raheem Sterling will raise the levels at Chelsea after completing a stunning £50million move from Manchester City, insists England team-mate Mason Mount. 

The London-raised 27-year-old has returned to the capital to pen a five-year deal worth more than £300,000-a-week with Thomas Tuchel’s side.

He spent seven years at the Etihad following a £50m switch from Liverpool, making more than 300 appearances and winning 11 major trophies but is understood to have moved for more regular first-team football.

Sterling leaves City having scored 131 goals for them in all competitions and as their second top scorer in European football, and Mount, 23, is now hoping he can bring that quality to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Sterling, Mount said: ‘Top, top guy. Obviously such an experienced player and a top-class professional. 

‘I have been lucky to play with him over the last couple of years with England, where he has captained the team at times.

‘He is someone who has been there for a very long time. He is a top player and I have learnt a lot off him over the last couple of years.

‘For him to be joining us is only going to bring our levels higher. He is definitely someone who strives for high levels and win. 

‘We want those players around this group and we want to keep striving for that. I am very excited to see him and for him to be here.’

Sterling becomes the first signing of the Todd Boehly era in west London in a summer for the Blues which has already seen them lose experienced defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

But Mount has backed Sterling to provide that know-how in the Chelsea dressing room next season.
