SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC (8-6-2, 26 points) fell 3-0 at home to the Portland Timbers (6-6-8, 26 points) on Saturday afternoon at Lumen Field. Jaroslaw Niezgoda, Santiago Moreno and Dairon Asprilla scored for the visitors, in a match that saw the Rave Green celebrate its 2022 Concacaf Champions League title in front of 47,722 fans prior to the contest.

Niezgoda put the Timbers ahead in the 24th minute, receiving a cross from Sebastian Blanco for a header at the far post. It was the team-leading seventh goal of the season for Niezgoda and his first against Sounders FC in six career appearances. Blanco leads the Timbers with seven assists in 2022.

After Seattle went down to 10 men early in the second half due to a Jackson Ragen red card, the Timbers made it 2-0 via a Moreno penalty kick in the 82nd minute after Nouhou was whistled for a handball inside the area. Asprilla made it 3-0 on the counterattack minutes later with his third career goal against Seattle (including postseason).

Following today’s game, Seattle hits the road for two road fixtures in four days, first against Nashville SC on Wednesday, July 13 (5:30 p.m. PT / FOX 13+, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM) before heading to Chicago for a matchup against the Fire on Saturday, July 16 (5:00 p.m. PT / FOX 13+, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
