Jose Mourinho is ‘desperate’ to beat Inter Milan to the signing of Paulo Dybala… with Roma boss convinced Argentine free agent is ‘the ONLY striker who can help them take a step forward’

  • Argentine star is a free agent after leaving Juventus at the end of last season
  • Inter Milan had verbal agreement in place but are yet to complete deal
  • AC Milan are also interested in securing services of  28-year-old forward

Jose Mourinho hasn’t given up on bringing Paulo Dybala to Roma and is desperate to seal a deal for the former Juventus man, ahead of his Serie A rivals.

The Argentinean striker is available on a free transfer after his contract with Juventus expired on June 30 and it had been believed he was set to for a switch to Inter Milan.

The 28-year-old has held talks with Inter, and reached a verbal agreement with the club. However, the move has been put on hold due to Dybala’s agent’s requests and because of Inter’s need to sell Edin Dzeko or Joaquin Correa following the return of Romelu Luakau on loan.

Those delays have opened the door for Roma, with Il Corriere dello Sport reporting that Jose Mourinho is pushing hard to sign the player, and is considered by the Portuguese as ‘the only striker who can help Roma make a step forward in terms of quality.’

Serie A looks the most likely destination for Dybala, with champions AC Milan also interested in bringing in the striker, although both Milan and Roma can’t match the salary offered by Inter, thought to be in the region of €6 million a year plus €1 million add-ons.

Mourinho has already added free agents Nemanja Matic from Manchester United and second-choice goalkeeper Mile Svilar from Benfica, but wants to add Dybala to complement his attacking options.
