July 7, 2022 – MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro) – Tacoma Defiance News Release
TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance today announced that it has loaned defender Eric Kinzner to FC Tucson of USL League One for the remainder of the 2022 season. A Sounders FC Academy product, Kinzner signed with Tacoma on July 13, 2020.
“Eric has grown tremendously as a player since he joined us in 2020,” said Tacoma Defiance Head Coach Wade Webber. “He will learn things from his loan to Tucson, as always happens when players switch teams for the first time, but he will also show how ready he is to compete in a different environment. Players need a variety of experiences to help them reach their potential and I am excited that Eric has this chance.”
Kinzner, 19, has started 26 of 28 appearances for Defiance since signing a professional contract, including six of his seven appearances in MLS NEXT Pro this season, scoring two goals. He capped a successful stint with the Academy by helping Sounders FC win the 2019 Generation Adidas Cup, the first MLS Academy squad to win the competition. The Tacoma native also has six appearances with the U.S. U-16 Men’s National Team.
After a week off from MLS NEXT Pro action, Tacoma Defiance (7-3-4, 28 points) sets its sights on Portland Timbers2 this Sunday, July 10 at Hillsboro Stadium (7:00 p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
