Pundit claims it’s ’embarrassing’ for Man Utd fans as Arsenal now more attractive than OT ‘shambles’

Man Utd supporters protest the ownership of the club

It’s “embarrassing” for Man Utd fans that players would now choose Arsenal over a transfer to Old Trafford, according to former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor.

Despite signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane last summer, the Red Devils could only manage a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.

That meant they failed to qualify for the Champions League, finishing 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham and 35 points adrift of champions and arch-rivals Man City.

Erik ten Hag is widely viewed as a good appointment – but reports of a ‘toxic’ dressing room and Cristiano Ronaldo wanting to leave could put a number of players off.

And Agbonlahor now reckons every other traditional ‘Big Six’ club would be ahead of Man Utd in the queue to sign players, despite claims Lisandro Martinez ‘prefers’ the idea of joining the Red Devils over Arsenal this summer.

“If I had the choice to go to Manchester City or Liverpool before Manchester United, it would be a no-brainer,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

“I’d even go to Arsenal before Manchester United, they’re a shambles.

“Ronaldo wants to leave because of it, they’ve got players they can’t rely on, and even De Jong from Barcelona. He’s like, ‘I might go but I’ll see how I feel. I’ll let you know in a month’. That’s what Manchester United have come to.

“It’s actually embarrassing for Manchester United fans. They’ve become that club that players are like to their agent, ‘If I can go to Spurs I’ll go there but, if not, then gone then I’ll go to Man United. I think that’s what it’s come to.”

Meanwhile, Portugal international Jose Fonte reckons Ronaldo will be wanting to leave Man Utd over his relentless desire to win trophies and Ballon d’Ors.

Fonte told talkSPORT: “What I do know is that the man loves the Champions League. He believes it is the best competition in the world and knows how he has to perform to win Ballon d’Or.

“Talking about Man United, I think they really have a good coach. I’ve played twice against Ajax and I was really impressed with the way they played and their philosophy.

“He needs to be winning trophies and competing…
