Transfer gossip: Barca move for Man Utd star Ronaldo to spite Bayern over Lewandowski

Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski both want transfers this summer.

Barca have already met Jorge Mendes to discuss a move for Cristiano Ronaldo – which may come as a relief to Thomas Tuchel…

TUCHEL NOT ENTHUSED OVER RONALDO ARRIVAL
What we already know of the Cristiano Ronaldo situation: he wants to leave Manchester United this summer for a Champions League club; he’s ready to take a sizeable pay-cut to make it happen; and Chelsea are interested in exploring a move.

It’s not clear, though, if anyone at Stamford Bridge has asked Thomas Tuchel what he thinks of the prospect of signing Ronaldo. Because it seems he’s not all that keen on the idea.

The Sun says new owner Todd Boehly fancies bringing the Portuguese megastar to Chelsea to kickstart his new regime but Tuchel isn’t convinced, especially while the Blues have other priorities, most obviously in defence.

BARCA HOLD TALKS WITH RONALDO’S AGENT
While Jorge Mendes hawks his client around Champions League clubs, it seems the agent has stirred something in Barcelona.

AS reports that Mendes met president Joan Laporta to discuss four players. But the subject of Ronaldo ‘monopolised’ the summit.

The report suggests Laporta sees Ronaldo as an opportunity to stick it Bayern Munich, who are refusing to roll over and have their bellies tickled while Barca take Robert Lewandowski.

The three other players who got a mention in Mendes’ meeting with Laporta: Bernardo Silva, Ruben Neves and Rafa Leao.

CHELSEA CLOSING IN ON STERLING AS ZIYECH HEADS FOR EXIT
Back to Chelsea. More appealingly to Tuchel, Sky Sports says the Blues are closing in on a deal to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

The clubs have reached the ‘advanced’ stage of talks, with an agreement over the fee said to be ‘close’.

Sterling’s wages are yet to be discussed but it seems Chelsea are getting close to City’s demand for a £50million fee, even if the England star has only a year remaining on his contract.

Sending Hakim Ziyech to AC Milan for a season would create some room in Tuchel’s squad, and The Athletic says the Rossoneri are working on such a deal.

BRIGHTON TO BUY AJAX DEFENDER
One Ajax player yet to be linked with Manchester United this summer – perhaps the only one – is Nico Tagliafico. But the Argentina left-back could still be heading to the Premier League.

Sussex Live says Brighton are keen on the 29-year-old, who is said to be available for just £3.3million…
