Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo wask past a flare

A journalist claims Serie A side Napoli have no interest in signing Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo amid reports he wants to leave Old Trafford.

It emerged on Saturday that the Portugal international wants to leave the Red Devils this summer if they receive a ‘satisfactory offer’ for him.

Ronaldo still managed to score 24 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions but he was criticised for his overall performances and impact on the team’s style of football.

One player the Man Utd are interested in is Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries with Sport Mediaset claiming the Premier League side have ‘tested the ground’ over the potential signing.

The Netherlands international contributed five goals and four assists in 33 Serie A appearances last term and he is now attracting interest from a number of clubs.

The report from Sport Mediaset insists that Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also in the race for his signature with Inter unlikely to accept less than €30m for Dumfries.

Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Noel Whelan insists Ronaldo wants to leave Man Utd because he wants to play Champions League football next term.

Whelan told Football Insider: “This will be the first season Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t played in the Champions League.

“I’m pretty sure he thought in his mind that when he went to Manchester United last season, and signed for them, that they would make the top four.

“It’s not been a great season for Cristiano Ronaldo, it’s been frustrating for him. He didn’t enjoy the role that he played at times but still finished top scorer.

“Players like Ronaldo are marquee players, they are marquee signings, marquee names and not only do they bring something special to the football…
