Charlotte Independence to Kick off High School Soccer Season with Showcase at American Legion Memorial Stadium

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence announced today that the club will kick off the 2022 North Carolina high school boys soccer season with a premier showcase event. The USL League One professional men’s organization will host six area high school boys teams at American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday, August 13 for a showcase that features some of the Queen City’s top high school soccer talent. The Charlotte Independence High School Showcase will feature six teams and three matchups, on one big day at the region’s best soccer stadium, American Legion Memorial Stadium.


“We’re thrilled to welcome some of the region’s top soccer talent to our home field,” stated Charlotte Independence President and Chief Operation Officer, Tim Schuldt. “This is a great opportunity for these young men to showcase their talents, and it’s a terrific opportunity for these schools to come out, show their school spirit and support their teams.”

“We appreciate the Charlotte Independence making this opportunity available to our team and the other five teams,” stated Jose Garcia, Athletic Director for South Mecklenburg High School. “We look forward to three very spirited and competitive match-ups and a great opportunity for these players and teams to showcase their talents to coaches and fans.”

About The Matchups & Teams:

10:00 AM South Meck High School vs. Carmel Christian School

12:00 PM Hough High School vs. Christ the King Catholic High School

2:00 PM Myers Park High School vs. Charlotte Latin School

Hough High School had a record of 22-4-1*. They ended the 2021 season as State Runners Up following a 0-3 loss to New Hanover High School in the 2021 NCHSAA 4A State Championship.

South Mecklenburg High School finished the year with a 17-4-4* record and was once again a final four group but fell to Hough in the NCHSAA 4A West Regional Final 1-0.

Myers Park High School went 13-3 on the 2021 season and made it to the 3rd round of the NCHSAA Playoffs. The Mustangs battled Southwest Guilford High School to a 1-1 draw and lost 2-3 in a penalty shootout to end their campaign.

Christ the King Catholic High School recorded an undefeated 2021 season…
