Arsenal push for £25m midfielder as Romano explains why Milinkovic-Savic deal is ‘complicated’

Arsenal target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic gestures towards his team-mates

Arsenal are weighing up the possibility of signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans “more than” Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners have already signed one midfielder in Fabio Vieira this summer in a £34m deal from Portuguese giants Porto.

However, it is rumoured that Arsenal will look to bring in another player in the centre of the park before the end of the transfer window with various names mooted.

Serbia international Milinkovic-Savic is one player who has been linked in the Italian press after another brilliant season in Serie A for Lazio.

He scored 11 goals and created another 11 for his Lazio team-mates as they finished fifth in the Italian top-flight table last campaign.

But respected journalist Romano claims Arsenal will push for Leicester City midfielder Tielemans – who is reportedly value at £25m by the Foxes – over Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

Speaking on the Que Golazo podcast, Romano said: “I see some of these names mentioned. Milinkovic-Savic is always mentioned in the Italian press, but Lazio want €75-80million (£68.7million) for Milinkovic-Savic, so it is a really complicated one.

“I am sure that Tielemans is a good opportunity because he is out of contract next summer.

“He is not extending his Leicester contract, so this is why Arsenal are exploring that possibility more than Milinkovic-Savic today.”

Following the signing of Vieira last month, former Premier League striker Darren Bent is still hopeful that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could also seal a deal for Tielemans.

Bent told talkSPORT: “No, I am hoping there is still an opportunity for Tielemans to come in as well. He’s a good player. A really good player. You can’t just have one player for every position.

“Arsenal are in Europe again, so I am sure there is more money to spend. Partey doesn’t stay fit, so we need as many good players as we can.”

When asked whether he could leave Leicester this summer, Tielemans recently said: “That is not out of the question. I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I give everything for the club until the last day.

“But of course you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”
