Jorge Sampaoli has dramatically quit as Marseille manager and is set to leave in the near future, the club announced on Friday.

The Argentine’s departure, after 17 months in charge, comes as a big surprise given their success last season, as he led OM to second in Ligue 1, seeing them qualify for this year’s Champions League.

But he was reportedly frustrated by the club’s lack of intent in the transfer market, leading to his departure. Sampaoli, who had a year left on his contract, is said to be in the process of finalising the terms of his exit.
