Leeds sell Liam McCarron

Championship outfit Stoke City have signed Leeds United winger Liam McCarron for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old only made one senior appearance for the Premier League side.

Stoke said via their official website: “The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Potters and becomes (manager) Michael O’Neill’s fourth acquisition of the summer.

“McCarron joins Aden Flint, Harry Clarke and Josh Laurent in moving to North Staffordshire ahead of the 2022-23 season.”

Preston-born McCarron, who has represented Scotland at Under-19 level, joined Leeds from Carlisle in 2019 after making 20 first-team appearances for the Cumbrians.

He came off the bench to make his Leeds debut in a 4-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal at Elland Road in December 2021.

Elsewhere, Championship outfit Millwall are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Leeds United youngster Charlie Cresswell on loan.

The 19-year-old has progressed through the ranks at Leeds United. He made his senior debut for them in the Carabao Cup during the 2020/21 campaign.

Cresswell made five appearances in the Premier League last term with Leeds struggling with injuries.

Jesse Marsch’s side have already signed Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Football Insider are reporting that Millwall are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Cresswell on loan.

This will be a season-long loan deal and it is likely to be completed after ‘developments’ were made on Tuesday.

Leeds have given their ‘green light’ for this transfer. Marsch is said to be an ‘admirer’ of Cresswell but he ‘does not believe he is yet ready to compete for a first-team spot at Premier League level’.
