Houston Dynamo 2 Look to Bounce Back against Tacoma Defiance

HOUSTON – Houston Dynamo 2 returns to AVEVA Stadium for the first time since May 8, when they take on the Tacoma Defiance on Sunday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. CDT.

Houston is looking to snap a three-game losing streak that began against St. Louis City SC 2 on June 4, when the team fell 2-0 against the franchise whose MLS side will join the league as an expansion team in 2023. Dynamo 2 enter with a favorable record at AVEVA Stadium this season, going (3-0-0) this season and outscoring opponents (4-0).


In Dynamo 2’s most recent match, which came last Sunday against Timbers 2, the team found itself in the lead for the majority of the game following a penalty kick from forward Papa N’Doye in the 15th minute. It was midfielder Marcelo Palomino who drew the foul to set up the Southern Methodist University alum’s fourth goal of the season.

Timbers scored the equalizer in the 80th minute following a cross from Selmir Miscic that found Dawson McCartney. Seconds before the final whistle, David Ayala found Zac McGraw inside the box and his header secured three points for Timbers 2.

After this week’s match, Dynamo 2 will be back on the road next weekend as the travel to San Jose to take on Earthquakes II at Pay Pal Park in San Jose, California. Kickoff for this match will start at 9:30 p.m. CDT.

Here are three key points ahead of Sunday’s match:

SHOOTING STAR: Papa N’Doye’s 15th minute penalty kick goal marked the Senegalese international’s fourth goal of the season. N’Doye finished with one more shot on target in addition to his penalty kick, which cemented his place atop the league leaderboard in shots. N’Doye is currently sitting at 38 shots in his debut professional season, leading North Texas SC’s Bernard Kamungo and Orlando City B’s Jack Lynn, each of whom have 36. In terms of shots on target, N’Doye is also near the top of the league, as his 19 leaves him just two shots on goal behind the best mark in MLS NEXT Pro.

REINFORCEMENTS IN THE MIDFIELD: Last week’s match against Timbers 2 marked the return of two key contributors to Dynamo 2. Midfielders Marcelo Palomino and Brooklyn Raines both played in their first match for the MLS Next Pro side since May 8, when the team took down Colorado Rapids 2 by a final score of 2-0 at AVEVA Stadium.
