Tottenham Hotspur move for Djed Spence ‘stalling’ as clubs ‘remain way apart in negotations’

Tottenham target Djed Spence

According to reports, Tottenham are ‘stalling’ in their pursuit of Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence as the clubs ‘remain way apart in negotiations’.

The 21-year-old signed for Middlesbrough in 2018 following a spell as an academy player at Fulham.

Spence played 63 times for Boro in the Championship prior to his loan move to Nottingham Forest last September.

Christian Eriksen’s quandary marks another nadir in Manchester United’s downfall

The right-back shone for Nottm Forest in 2021/22 as they earned promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with the youngster of late. Middlesbrough are understood to be demanding over £15m for his services.

The Sun are now reporting that Spurs’ move for Spence is now ‘stalling’. They confirm that Boro are ‘looking for around £15m plus add-ons’.

Though they add that the two clubs ‘remain way apart in negotiations’ as Tottenham are attempting to pay ‘considerably less’ than Boro’s asking price.

The report goes onto state that the player remains ‘confident’ that a deal will be agreed.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Tottenham have reportedly both submitted offers for Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco.

Carrasco spent two years in the Chinese Super Leage in a hiatus from the Spanish club, before returning to Atletico in the summer of 2020.

He’s a key part of Diego Simeone’s side, playing frequently as a left wing-back, but just as comfortable in more forward positions.

And that versatility, as well as his quality, has caught the eye of a number of Premier League suitors.

A report on Thursday claimed Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea are all ‘knocking on the door’ with the idea of signing Carrasco in the summer transfer window.

And now, Diario AS (via CaughtOffside) claim Carrasco has had ‘important offers’ from Chelsea and Spurs.

Simeone isn’t interested in selling the 28-year-old, but if a club does trigger the player’s release clause, the Argentine manager won’t have a say in the matter.

Carrasco reportedly has a release clause worth €60m (£51m), which expires in the summer of 2024.

Carrasco is believed to be ‘very comfortable’ in Madrid and is unlikely to push for a transfer, although he does ‘feel entitled’ to a ‘review of his contract’.

Despite the Premier League ‘lurking’, the Belgium winger is ‘delighted’ with the role he plays under Simeone.
